Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy often brings up practical questions alongside emotional ones. Below, you’ll find answers to common concerns about how I work, what to expect, and how we navigate care together — from logistics and confidentiality to fit, pacing, and support along the way.

  • We start with a free 30-minute introductory session.

This is a space for you to share what brings you in, ask questions, and get a sense of how I work. I’ll offer a brief clinical perspective on the themes you want to explore and outline what therapy might look like.

This meeting also helps us determine whether we’re the right therapeutic fit — something essential for emotionally safe and meaningful work.

  • No, I do not work directly with insurance companies.
Many clients choose self-pay because it ensures:

    • Complete confidentiality
    • No required diagnoses
    • Greater flexibility
    • Full autonomy in your therapeutic process

If your insurance reimburses for out-of-network providers, I can provide documentation.

  • Most clients begin with weekly sessions, especially when working with trauma, relational patterns, emotional overwhelm, or periods of transition.

Some shift to biweekly sessions once deeper stability is established.
We’ll decide the rhythm together based on your needs and goals.

  • Yes.
Therapy is collaborative, and you always have agency. You can pause or end at any time.

If possible, I recommend a closing session to reflect on your progress and support a meaningful transition — but this is not required.

  • You don’t need certainty to begin. Curiosity is enough.

The introductory session is designed to help you see whether therapy feels right, how I work, and what might be helpful for you — with no pressure to continue.

  • Yes — online therapy is available for clients physically located in Sweden.

    For clients outside Sweden:
Depending on the context and legal/ethical guidelines, I may offer coaching, but it is not a substitute for psychotherapy.

If you’re unsure which service applies to your situation, feel free to ask.

  • There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. It depends on your goals and the depth of the work.

    • Short-term therapy can support specific stressors or decisions
    • Mid-term therapy often focuses on patterns, identity, and relationships
    • Longer-term work supports deeper emotional restructuring and personal growth

We check in regularly to ensure therapy is serving you well.

  • Yes.
Confidentiality is central to therapy. Everything you share is protected by strict ethical and professional guidelines.

The only exceptions involve risk of harm to yourself or others, or situations legally requiring disclosure. Whenever possible, we will discuss these situations together.

  • Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice — or missed without notice — are billed at the full fee.

This policy protects the time set aside for your work.

If an emergency arises, please contact me as soon as possible and we will discuss the situation.

  • Many clients choose online therapy for convenience, privacy, or comfort.
Online sessions are equally effective and follow the same structure as in-person work.

You are welcome to do therapy online exclusively, in-person exclusively, or a mix of both.

  • Yes — certified therapy dogs and emotional support animals are welcome, as long as they are calm and comfortable in a therapy environment.

Please let me know in advance so I can prepare the space.
    (General pets are not permitted.)

  • I do not provide crisis or emergency services.

If you are in immediate danger or experiencing acute psychiatric distress, please contact:

    • 112 (Swedish emergency services)
    • Your local Psychiatric Emergency Unit (Psykiatrisk Akutmottagning)
    • Or go to the nearest emergency room

Once you are safe, you’re welcome to reach out to schedule follow-up support.

  • If concerns arise about self-harm, harm to others, or serious impairment, we will talk about it openly and determine the appropriate steps together.

My goal is always to support your safety with clarity and compassion.
In rare cases, confidentiality may be broken to prevent harm — but I will always involve you in the conversation whenever possible.

  • Yes.
A significant part of my background involves working with complex trauma, chronic stress patterns, dissociation, emotional shut-down, and long-standing relational injuries.

We work steadily, gently, and at your pace — with an emphasis on emotional safety, capacity building, and strengthening internal stability.

  • Absolutely.
Many of my clients appear composed, successful, or “fine” on the outside while carrying a great deal internally.

Therapy helps unearth the emotional architecture behind over-functioning, burnout, perfectionism, and the silent weight of being the “strong one.”

  • Yes.
I provide an affirming, knowledgeable space for individuals and couples navigating non-monogamy, open relationships, or relational structures outside traditional models.

We focus on communication, boundaries, trust, emotional safety, and relational clarity.

  • Yes — extensively.
Expat life brings unique emotional and relational challenges: identity shifts, cultural dislocation, loneliness, partnership strain, belonging, and rebuilding a sense of self in a new place.

Therapy can support you in navigating the complexity of building a life in a new country.
